Crowns

At our Bellevue office our dentists, Dr. Khachatryan, Dr. Im, and Dr. Furca, use dental crowns as a cover over teeth that have been damaged so badly that their integrity has been compromised. Teeth weaken when they are fractured, decayed, or have had a root canal performed. If we do not place this small shield, known as a crown, onto the tooth it will continue to deteriorate with your normal daily use.

How does a crown work?

This cap encases your natural tooth structure and protects it, allowing you to chew and speak as you normally while protecting the tooth. Crowns are made to replicate the natural tooth that it's covering before the damage is done. This is precise work, and sometimes we don't know what the natural tooth looked like. But, to ensure that the bite and jaw alignment are the same, we take the time to ensure a perfect fit. We also want the crown to blend with your natural teeth, so if it is a front tooth that you are placing a crown on, color is particularly important. Some patients choose to have their surrounding teeth whitened before having a crown placed.

We use dental crowns to:

•  repair tooth that is cracked or fractured.
•  repair a tooth that is decayed severely.
•  following a root canal.
•  hide a discolored tooth.
•  as a way to provide an anchor for a bridge.
•  place on top of a dental implant.

Will everyone be able to see the Crown?

Dental Crowns have come a long way. Today there are several materials used for Dental Crowns, and yes, including materials that blend in so naturally with your mouth that you will not be able to spot it from the rest of your teeth. If you are imagining gold or metal crowns, we have good news for you. There are porcelain materials and ceramic materials that are highly durable and look great. Ask us about these options, we will help you decide what is best for your situation. Today's crowns are stronger and more natural looking than ever!
