Dentures are a last resort. They are a foreign object that cannot duplicate the same feel and function of your own natural teeth. At Smiling Heart Dentistry, our goal is to help you keep as many of your natural teeth as possible. Scheduling regular checkups will help.

When most or all of your natural teeth are missing or beyond repair, dentures are a better option than few or no teeth at all. There are two overall styles for Dentures in a variety of materials, partial and full. Our dentists, Dr. Khachatryan, Dr. Im, and Dr. Furca, will help you decide which is your best option.

Partial Dentures

Our first goal will be partial dentures. These are overall more comfortable for you. Partial dentures are a removable device that is held in place using metal clasps to your remaining healthy teeth. Partials do require some healthy teeth to attach to and they offer more comfort in chewing and talking without the shifting and moving of dentures. We may advise you to consider the placement of dental implants to serve as teeth anchors for a partial denture. Together, we will determine if your gums and anchor teeth are healthy enough for a partial denture.

Partial Dentures help by:

•  replacing multiple missing teeth.
•  restoring some of your mouths natural function.
•  correct bite issues and jaw alignment.
•  stop future problems including teeth shifting and bone atrophy.

Full Dentures

Full Denture are recommended when there are no remaining healthy teeth. Full dentures are a removable prosthesis that is made of plastic teeth and set in a pink gum-colored plastic base. You would use an over the counter denture adhesive to keep it in place on the gum ridge. Full Dentures are not an easy decision for most of our patients, it is a life altering option. It is more beneficial than no teeth, but Dentures will never be the same as your own natural teeth. You will have to be careful in your daily diet and the variety of food you are able to eat with dentures. There is also a decrease in self-confidence during social situations in many of our patients. But, again, it is a better option than no teeth, and we want you to live as happy of a life as you can.

Full Dentures help by:

•  giving you fake teeth when all of your natural teeth are unhealthy or missing in the same arch.
•  improving your facial shape versus missing several teeth.
