If the roof of your mouth is hurting, or you are experiencing pain or soreness on your hard or soft palate, it is a good idea to see a dentist in our office
as this may be a symptom of a bigger problem.
Since the roof of your mouth is not a highly visible area, it may be hard to determine why the roof of your mouth may be sore. If you tilt your head way backward and shine a flashlight in your mouth, you may see that the roof of your mouth is red. Even if you cannot see it in a mirror, you may be able to feel something with your tongue. You may feel a tender area, like a sore or a lesion. You may feel multiple raised spots or sores on the roof of your mouth.
Additionally, you may have some other symptoms at the same time you are experiencing soreness on the roof of your mouth. For instance, if you have a cough or runny nose along with discomfort on the roof of your mouth, you may have an environmental irritant plaguing your body. Other symptoms like sores on the roof of your mouth accompanied by a fever and sore throat could be due to an infection or autoimmune condition.
If you are experiencing soreness or discomfort which seems to be coming from the roof of your mouth, it is important to make an appointment with our office as soon as possible. We want to help determine why you are having this discomfort and the best treatment for your oral health.
